进行LCA评价的方法可以参见国际标准化组织（ISO）制定的ISO14040系列标准。ISO14040系列标准与ISO/TC207技术委员会一起发展。该系列标准提供了进行LCA分析的原则、框架和方法论要求。ISO14040系列标准也规定了LCA数据记录的格式并且给出了两个LCA技术报告的示范案例。
